On Thursday we took a trip to the longest show cave in Britain, White Scar Cave. The tour lasts about 80 minutes and shows you some incredible sights, from stalactites and stalagmites that are over 100,000 years old to a cavern that is one of the largest in Britain.
White Scar Cave, so called because of the limestone crags above the entrance, was discovered by a gentleman named Christopher Long back in 1923.
The tour is really incredible, our tour guide was so informative and enthusiastic. I don’t want to give too much information about the cave away because it’s best to go and enjoy it for yourself.
We had an 8, 12 and 13 year old with us and they all loved it. (Two boys and girl) They were interested in the formations and actually paid attention to the talks that were given and they were very willing to allow the Devil’s Tongue to curse them.
They have some amazing facts and bits of information for you to peruse whilst you’re waiting to set off on your walk. There’s also a gift shop and a cafe, the perfect place to warm up after your cave adventures.
Check the website for times as they only take a certain amount of people in each group. You’re all equipped with a hard hat and don’t forget to wrap up warm because the temperature drops quite drastically down there, there’s also a chance that you might get a tiny bit wet so a good pair of shoes are a must.
After our journey to the centre of the Earth I thought we should call in at Billy Bob’s Ice Cream Parlour, I have been wanting to go here for ages.
It’s amazing! This place is like one of my dreams come true. The whole idea of Billy Bob’s makes me so happy, from the design of the building to the wording they use on the menus, it’s the whole American 50’s vibe that I adore.
Throughout the school holidays the play barn, complete with swing ropes and all sorts to clamber and climb over, is only free to diners, there is a smaller separate area for non-diners, we’d already enjoyed a car picnic earlier so we weren’t eating there today, but that didn’t stop us testing their delicious ice cream. We had mint chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate and a lemon sorbet.
If you like the idea of a 1950’s diner, complete with booths and an original soda fountain then you need to try this place out. We’re definitely heading back there soon to try their burgers and pancakes.
Don’t ever let anyone make you think you’re not good enough.
Follow your dreams right now! Don’t wait until tomorrow,
next week, next year. Stop planning, start doing 🙂
Be happy and keep smiling 😀
